For many individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), independence isn’t just about living at home …

— it’s about having opportunities to contribute, connect, and enjoy life. With the support of her CRI Direct Support Professional, Stacy has been able to do all three.

A Love for Volunteering

Stacy and her DSP, Carol, have worked together for more than five years. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, they spent much of their time volunteering at a local nursing home. Stacy loved helping the residents and bringing a little extra joy into their days.

When the facility stopped accepting volunteers, Stacy deeply missed the sense of purpose volunteering gave her. That’s when Carol introduced her to another opportunity — helping an older woman from her church with light housework. Stacy was thrilled to step in, and she continues to make a difference in her neighbor’s life.

Staying Active with CRI

Beyond volunteering, Stacy enjoys being part of community activities with CRI. Recently, she joined the Lewistown office to help decorate for fall. Together, she and Carol crafted a beautiful autumn wreath to brighten the CRI front office.

Moments like these allow Stacy to showcase her creativity and feel proud of her contributions to her community.

Finding Fun in Everyday Life

Of course, it’s not all work — Stacy also knows how to have fun! A huge Disney fan, she was thrilled when Carol took her to see a Disney movie on the big screen. Experiences like these bring joy, laughter, and special memories that Stacy treasures.

Why Stacy’s Story Matters

Stacy’s journey shows the value of having a consistent, caring DSP relationship. For more than five years, Carol has been by her side — helping her find new ways to serve others, explore her interests, and stay engaged in her community.

At CRI, we know that life with IDD is about more than daily routines. It’s about living fully — giving back, staying connected, and finding joy in big and small moments alike.
