Golfing to Help People with Disabilities

Dennis J. Crotty Memorial Golf Tournament supports the CRI Enrichment Program, aiding fragile people with disabilities and the elderly to live bright, vibrant, and active lives in the community.

The Dennis J. Crotty Memorial Golf Tournament has supported the Community Resources for Independence (CRI) Enrichment Program for more than 10 years. The program is an evolution of the Hospice Wraparound Program and has continued to evolve during the pandemic.

As the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end, the leadership team of the Dennis J. Crotty Memorial Golf tournament has expanded the beneficiaries of the tournament. We continue to support people at the end of their lives, enabling peaceful dignity in their final days and hours. Additionally, the tournament now also helps the elderly and people with disabilities live bright, vibrant, and active lives.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affirmed our belief that people with disabilities and the elderly have a wide variety of needs that ordinarily go unmet. Before COVID-19, some individuals with disabilities could ‘make do without.’ But the pandemic gave us a new appreciation of how fragile and always close to dire straits people with disabilities often are. A new medical bill, a new prescription copay, an unexpected expense, rising food costs, an unfortunate repair bill – any of these can trigger a cascade of unfortunate events, jeopardizing a person’s health and welfare, and jeopardizing their ability to lead everyday lives.

Furthermore, funding of the Community Resources for Independence Enrichment Program enables the elderly and people with disabilities to take part in events and activities to enrich their lives. The events include creative and expressive art, to community outings and events, exercise and wellness, peer support and self-help. All of these things are part of the CRI Bright, Vibrant, Active initiative.
